This project conserves approximately 75 acres of land including large areas of forested wetland (over half of the acreage) and adjacent upland forest buffer. The site also contains a perennial stream with Wild Brook Trout Habitat (headwaters of the Merriland River). The project is located near the Kennebunk Plains/Wells Barrens Beginning with Habitat Focus Area of Statewide Ecological Significance, and adjacent to other conserved lands to the west-northwest (across a powerline corridor and train tracks). The Town of Wells will perform restoration activities in two sections of the existing stream including shoreline stabilization and removing a log jam to improve passage for brook trout; however, MNRCP funds are not being used for this work.
