Project Description

The Cox's Pond Wetlands project conserved approximately 35 acres of land including approximately 16 acres of freshwater wetlands (a mix of forested, scrub-shrub, and open water wetlands), with the balance consisting of upland buffer. A perennial stream and multiple ephemeral streams are also present on the property. The site includes approximately 1,800 feet of shoreline frontage on the eastern boundary along Cox’s Pond and the area of wetlands that feed into the pond, and much of this area is mapped as Inland Waterfowl and Wading Bird Habitat (~17 acres). A population of the rare plant spicebush (Lindera benzoin), a species of Special Concern, is present on the site. The property is part of the Mount Agamenticus Focus Area of Statewide Ecological Significance and is bordered to the south and east by additional conservation land.
