This project conserved approximately eight acres of land by fee simple acquisition. It includes approximately seven acres of freshwater forested, freshwater emergent, and estuarine intertidal wetlands, approximately 250 feet of frontage on Spruce Creek, a tidal creek, approximately three acres of Inland Waterfowl and Wading Bird Habitat, and additional upland buffer. The salt marsh within the project area is part of a mapped occurrence of a rare Spartina Saltmarsh community. The project area also includes approximately two acres of potential marsh migration space, primarily within the existing field. The Pettigrew-Major preserve is located nearby to the west, and much of the surrounding area is under pressure from development. Kittery Land Trust will retain and manage the property for its natural resource values and low-impact recreation.
