This project conserved approximately 456 acres of land by fee simple acquisition. It includes approximately 26 acres of freshwater forested wetland, five acres of freshwater scrub-shrub and emergent wetlands, a small pond, several perennial streams, and approximately two miles of undeveloped frontage on the Carrabassett River. It also contains five documented vernal pools, one of which met the physical and biological characteristics to be considered a Significant Vernal Pool. The project area is part of a 1,200-acre undeveloped habitat block and the southern half of the property is mapped as Deer Wintering Area. Somerset Woods Trustees will retain and manage the project area for its natural resource values and low-impact recreation. This project also received funding from the Land for Maine’s Future Program.
