Apply NowMNRCP News:  The 2023 funding round is now open! Letters of Intent are due on June 28, 2023. During this year's funding round, MNRCP strongly encourages applications that include restoration or enhancement of aquatic resources. These projects are likely to score and rank higher than "preservation only" projects. Applications for "preservation only" projects may still be accepted if they include specific resources that are difficult or impossible to restore (i.e., vernal pools, IWWH, marsh migration sites) or if they exhibit exceptional site characteristics. Please contact Bryan Emerson (bryan.emerson@tnc.org or 207-607-4821) if you have any questions about potential projects for this year's funding round.

MNRCP awards competitive grants each year to projects that restore and protect high priority aquatic resources in Maine. MNRCP funding rounds are usually announced in May or June. Public agencies, non-profit conservation organizations, tribes, and municipalities are encouraged to submit a Letter of Intent for eligible restoration and preservation projects. When the funding round opens, interested applicants should follow these steps:

  1. Download the 2023 Request for Letters of Intent package to determine if your project is a good fit for MNRCP’s goals and requirements. Pay particular attention to the Special Considerations as these describe the ways in which, as a compensatory mitigation program, MNRCP differs from other state and federal grant programs.

  2. Look at the map of MNRCP Regions to determine where your project occurs. If you would like to view the MNRCP Regions in Google Earth, please contact us and we will send the map files.

  3. Check the MNRCP Funds Available report to find out if funds are currently available in your project’s region. Available funds are updated on a regular basis but contact us with any questions. Also be sure to look at the “Priority Resource Types” in your region—a project does not have to address these resources specifically to receive funding, but those that restore, enhance, or conserve these resources will be more competitive.

  4. Submit a Letter of Intent through our online form to apply for funding. The 2023 funding round is now open and Letters of Intent are being accepted. Letters of Intent are due by June 28, 2023.

  5. Applicants whose proposed projects meet the program’s requirements will be invited to submit full proposals. To learn more about the additional information that was requested for full proposals in 2022, follow this link.
